History of Coca-Cola
The Coca-Cola Company was founded in 1892. Primarily it manufactures and sells syrup and concentrate for Coca-Cola but the company also produces and sells other soft drinks and citrus beverages such as Sprite. As one of the largest corporations in the United States, Coca-Cola has more than 2,800 products available in more than 200 countries. They are headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
Coca-Cola was started in 1886 by John S. Pemberton, a Pharmacist in Atlanta. Frank Robinson, Mr. Pemberton’s bookkeeper, named the formula Coca-Cola from what it was made of. Cocaine from the coca leaf and the caffeine rich extracts of the kola nut. The cocaine was removed from the formula in 1903). It was known for being a tonic for most common ailments.
World of Coca-Cola
World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta is an exciting museum where visitors can learn all about the history of Coca-Cola, learn how it’s made, and experience everything revolving around this very popular soda that most have grown to love.
This 20 – acre complex opened to the public on May 24, 2007. This complex is just blocks from where John Pemberton created the original Coca-Cola formula. It replaced the original exhibit which was founded in 1990. There are other World of Coca-Colas in various locations such as Las Vegas and Disney Springs.
The museum features a vault where visitors can learn the secret formula of Coca-Cola, a 4D movie that explains how the scientist and his assistant set out to find the secret for themselves, and an area that allows visitors to taste 60 different flavors from around the world.
There is also a fully functioning bottling line that produced bottles of Coca-Cola for the complex’s guests. In 2013, that process halted and now it runs in simulation.
When you walk into the World of Coca-Cola, you are greeted and offered a choice of beverage. Those choices include Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, and the lower calorie Coca-Cola Life. You’ll get to watch a video that is a “sneak peek” that gives you a preview of what’s to come during your tour.
Also in the lobby you’ll see an exhibit where several artists from different countries were invited to decorate Coca-Cola bottles that expresses their country’s unique culture for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
In the loft, guests can immerse themselves in the heritage of Coca-Cola. Guests get to see artifacts from when the company first started and Coca-Cola treasures from today. There are almost 200 historical and international pieces that make up more than 125 years of Coca-Cola’s history.
The Coca-Cola Theater
This short 6 minute film is sure to make you smile. It’s a collection of life’s special Moments of Happiness and can only be seen at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. From skydiving for the first time or surprising a loved one, these special Moments of Happiness are sure to add some joy to your World of Coca-Cola experience.
Vault of The Secret Formula
Yes! You read that right. The World of Coca-Cola is also home to the legendary secret formula for Coca-Cola. The vault holds more than 125 years of history, special moments, and the appeal associated with Coca-Cola.
As you walk through the vault, you’ll get familiar with the origins of the secret formula and have a great multimedia experience on your way to the formula itself. There are interactive experiences like The Taste Maker that allow visitors to combine tastes just like the original scientists used to when coming up with the formula that so many people love.
